Upcoming Exhibition
Holding the Masc by Ash Giblin
24 October to 2 November 2026
Opening Night Friday 23 October, 6 pm to 8 pm
Holding the Masc: Masculine Expression Through a Queer Lens is the debut solo photography exhibition by emerging trans-masc photographer Ash Giblin.
Through photographic portraiture, text and multimedia, the exhibition explores the ways our bodies, identities and cultural understandings of masculinity can be reshaped. Challenging binary representation and harmful masculine ideals, the work centres tenderness, transformation and self-authorship.
Each piece recognises trans-masculine people as vital participants in reimagining what masculinity can look and feel like through lived experience.
Presented with support from the City of Melbourne Annual Arts Grants Program, Holding the Masc is both a celebration of the trans-masc community and an invitation for audiences to encounter masculinity from a different perspective.
A 2027 calendar featuring artwork from the project will be available, with all proceeds donated to Transgender Victoria.
